Score one for the packrat! I don’t think of myself as someone who will eventually end up on a reality television show, climbing over piles of junk, refusing to abandon that old dish rag. I do however have an appreciation for stuff, my wife does not. So in the spirit of compromise it is necessary from time to time to lighten the load and part ways with some of my collection. Like any self-respecting eBay Power Seller with just a bit of research my junk is quickly converted into eBay products to sell for a nice profit. Below are five niches I just found while clearing out my closet.
*My first score from the top self was two old iPod retail display boxes. The hard plastic cases were not in the best shape, a bit dusty and scratched, but complete with the original documentation and labels. A quick eBay completed listing search revealed that priced correctly these would be an easy sell. That got me thinking as I have a habit of holding onto my empty retail boxes. Game consoles, cameras, printers, you name it and I’ve probably got the empty box stashed away somewhere. Armed with my completed listing tool I began searching and was a bit surprised to find many of these empty boxes are selling pretty well. Just like the item inside the package the more demand there is for the product, the more demand there is for its retail box. Apple iPad and iPhone retail boxes were easily selling in the $15-$30 range! Not bad for an empty box that most would have thrown away the day of purchase.
*Next in line was my cluster of old key chains. We all have them, impulse buys from vacations past, the free memento from your buddies trip, the gift from the car dealer, inevitably they end up stashed away collecting dust. The more exotic and unusual the better, I scored with few Las Vegas themed key rings.
*One of the biggest space hogs was my collection of car stereos. One factory stereo in working condition and one aftermarket deck that could be sold for parts. The aftermarket was easy to part with as it was of no use to me. It did have a detachable faceplate and remote control in good working order that was in pretty high demand and netted a quick $25. The factory stereo is harder to part with as it’s always nice to have around when you sell the vehicle. This particular model is selling pretty well so I’ve priced it on the high end to alleviate any seller remorse, if it doesn’t sell I will hold onto it!
*Behind the stereos was a pile of empty DVD cases. Now these cases are the leftovers from a large lot purchased years ago, but as I was researching these I found that old empty cases complete with the movie sleeve and art work also sell pretty well. So if you want to make a few bucks with the old scratched DVD’s that no longer play toss out the disc and list the empty cases. Same goes for the cases of your non working CD’s!
*Speaking of CD’s the last niche from this round of closet cleanup is empty CD and DVD spindles. I have to admit that this one was a pleasant surprise. If you buy recordable CD’s or DVD’s in bulk, packaged in the round spindle case, then hold onto that empty case. A single 100 count empty spindle easily sells for $5, package 3 or more into a lot and earn even more. The best part is these are easy to find, talk to the IT department at your job and ask them to save these for you, it’s easy money!
I hope this article gets the wheels turning for you to find eBay products that sell right in your own home. These are just a few simple and profitable ideas that may be right under your nose!
